A mm-Wave Phased-Array Fed Torus Reflector Antenna With ±30° Scan Range for Massive-MIMO Base-Station Applications

A phased-array fed reflector antenna system is presented which can be used for mm-wave base station applications. The proposed designed to support massive-multi-input–multi-output (MIMO) scenarios within a wide coverage ( $\pm 30^\circ $ ) in the azimuth plane and limited at elevation plane. design characterization methodology has been established optimize operation various line-of-sight conditions by adopting maximum-ratio-transmission (MRT) zero-forcing (ZF) MIMO algorithms. two-user case study considered evaluation of key performance metrics, i.e., effective isotropic radiated power, power consumption, signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR), signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR). This demonstrates that concept major advantage over traditional direct-radiating (DRPA) antennas reduce energy consumption. In present example, it requires 12–14 dB less transmitted as compared with MRT-beamformed DRPAs same SNR, 26–27 relatively ZF-beamformed DRPA systems SINR. prototype, employing 55 cm diameter torus operating 28 GHz-band, manufactured tested. measurement results agree well simulations.
